In the April 2025 issue of Madison's Isthmus, Joe Tarr captures the material and meaning of Shelter and Storm in his article, "Tamara Dean’s essay collection ‘Shelter and Storm’ aims to spark curiosity: Wonder and Community." He points out the tensions inherent in the title--for example, refuge and threat--that are reflected throughout the book and calls its essays "fascinating."
