May 3, 2026: Presentation in Reedsburg

Join me at the Reedsburg Public Library (370 Vine St. in Reedsburg, WI) at 1 PM on Sunday, May 3rd, for "What the Light is Hiding," a presentation based on my essay "Night Vision," from Shelter and Storm.

What the Light is Hiding brings to life the times long before modern Dark Sky initiatives, when some resisted the electric lights that promised to ruin their nighttime freedom and ease among shadows. Based on an essay from my book, Shelter and Storm: At Home in the Driftless, I explore rural electrification and night vision technology through the fascinating stories of nonconformists (including a rural New Lisbon woman) who over the past century have embraced or sought to conquer the darkness.
