Come to her in the woods on a phlox-scented morning when the fawns are just finding their legs. Plunge in with the tick’s spit while she’s crouching to inspect a scarlet-capped mushroom and thinking that she and her land and its life are exceptional: “Who finds such treasures only steps from their door?”
